Sol y Sombra has been Dundee’s original and favorite tapas bar since it opened in 2011. Born out of a childhood love for Spain and Spanish food, we have created a menu of fresh, authentic, and simple tapas. The aim is to recreate the atmosphere of a typical Spanish family meal, requiring everyone to share and enjoy the meal as one. Our chefs use the morning’s freshly delivered ingredients to decide which dishes will be served that day, ensuring a delightful dining experience for all dietary requirements, including vegetarian and vegan options.

A Little History: Our building has a rich history in the hospitality business. Built in 1842, it was originally the Lorne Bar until 1969, then renamed the Sliding Tackle by Dundee footballer Bobby Cox. It became the Ferry Inn in 1975 and continued until Sol y Sombra was established. The building retains historical elements, including beams from the Tay Rail Bridge Disaster of 1878.

Reservations: We are an independent restaurant and rely on reservations being honored. We kindly ask that any amendments to reservations be made as soon as possible. Card details are required to secure bookings, managed by Stripe, and will only be charged if cancellation terms are not met. Please inform us of any special requirements or dietary needs. We are not licensed for children under 5 and do not have wheelchair accessible toilets.
